Prior to the trip we watched many wheelbarrows full of fish being displayed and the big ones weighed.
177 pounds and another Halibut was 162 pounds
That's us on the way out - taken by a friend
Across Resurrection Bay from our waterfront condo, taken from the tour boat
Another glacier. They all have names but with so many the details are starting to blur....
Bear glacier. It extends down from the Harding Icefield. There is a lake with ice bergs but hard to see in the picture. Exit Glacier (about 12 miles north of Seward) was so named because it's the glacier frequently used to exit the icefield. There is a nice hike that you can take to Exit Glacier. Well, OK every glacier has a nice hike but this one is only 1.5 miles.
President Harding died in 1923 on his way home from Alaska. The rumors are: His wife poisoned him, he died from food poisoning or he died of natural causes. While it may have actually been a stroke that just doesn't make a good Alaskan story!
Mr Puffin. Diane was so thrilled to finally be able to see and photograph a Puffin. He was far away and so not very clear in the picture but a Puffin is a Puffin...
World War II lookout. It was believed that Steward was next after Dutch Harbor for the Japanese and a number of facilities and gun placements were built on the surrounding hills at the entrance to the bay. Seward was considered critical because the railroad ended here and control of Seward and the railroad meant control of Alaska and it's vast natural and mineral resources including coal.
We saw 5-6 whales that were feeding, breaching, sounding and diving. You see their tail when they dive deep. It was spectacular but far enough that we didn't get any good pictures.
Bird heaven
Anyone got a landing spot?
Hanging out in the sun!
And this is our waterfront condo. Just to the left of us is Fred and Judy Gibbs from Texas. Fred took the picture of us as we were leaving on the boat tour.
Glad we didn't need the Coasties as we like to call the Coast Guard
The harbor
Diane took this at 4:15 AM the next morning. Does it ever get dark in Alaska?
